A fishing boat sank in the waters of Phú Quý

The Provincial Disaster Command for Prevention, Search and Rescue has reported
on the incident involving the fishing boat BTh 84776 TS, which sank on October
10, 2024.
According to
reports, at around 10:00 AM on October 10, the fishing boat BTh 84776 TS, with
a capacity of 265 horsepower and engaged in fishing, was operating with 12 crew
members under the ownership and command of Mr. Võ Chí Thành (born in 1989,
residing in Long Hải Commune, Phú Quý District). While the boat was active
approximately 90 nautical miles southeast of Phú Quý Island (exact coordinates
unknown), it took on water and sank. The 12 crew members were safely rescued by
the fishing boat BTh 96399 TS, which has a capacity of 420 horsepower and was
also engaged in fishing, under the command of Mr. Trương Thướng (born in 1977,
residing in Long Hải Commune, Phú Quý District), who was operating nearby. All
crew members are reported to be in stable health.
Currently, the
captain of the fishing boat BTh 96399 TS and the crew are in the process of
salvaging the sunken fishing boat BTh 84776 TS. The weather in the area
includes strong northeast winds of level 5 to 6 and sea waves reaching heights
of 1.5 to 2.0 meters.
Upon receiving
this information, the Provincial Border Guard Command has instructed the Phú
Quý Border Station to continue monitoring the situation, maintaining regular
communication with the captain of BTh 96399 TS to stay updated on the salvage
efforts for the sunken BTh 84776 TS and to provide timely assistance if
requested; additionally, to inform nearby boat owners and fishermen to avoid
collisions in the area.
