Farmers focus on growing dragon fruit with VietGAP standards

(binhthuan.gov.vn) As of the end of November 2021, the area of dragon fruit in our province is about 33,770 hectares, of which the area of dragon fruit grown according to VietGAP standards is 12,291 hectares.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, every year, the Agriculture and Rural Development Sector has coordinated with relevant agencies, units and localities to deploy many solutions to encourage and support farmers, enterprises in the province to grow dragon fruits according to VietGAP standards. Accordingly, from the beginning of 2021 until now, the whole province has added 39 new facilities to produce dragon fruit according to VietGAP standards, with an area of 934.8 hectares. In which, Ham Thuan Nam district has 23 establishments with an area of 650 ha; Ham Thuan Bac district has 04 establishments with an area of 35 ha; Bac Binh district has 10 establishments with an area of 150 ha; La Gi town has 03 establishments with an area of 30 ha; Phan Thiet city has 01 facility with an area of 10 hectares; Tuy Phong district has 03 establishments with an area of 20 ha; Ham Tan district 02 facilities with an area of 20 hectares. Accumulated to November 2021, the whole province has 12,290.94 hectares of dragon fruit grown according to VietGAP standards, reaching 111.73% of the assigned plan in 2021.

In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to direct relevant agencies and units to closely coordinate with localities to propagate, mobilize and advise farmers and businesses to participate in the production of dragon fruit according to VietGAP standards. The goal is to make Binh Thuan dragon fruit become the main product of the province, ensuring safety, quality and meeting the needs of domestic consumers and for export.
