Successfully rescuing 20 crew members from a fishing vessel taking on water in Phú Quý waters

The Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue
has reported the incident of fishing vessel BTh 97877 TS taking on water in Phú
Quý waters on April 1, 2025.
At
6:00 PM on April 01, fishing vessel BTh 97877, with a capacity of 570 HP, 23
meters in length, operating in fisheries support activities with a crew of 25,
captained by Mr. Mai Văn Hiền (born in 1975, residing in Phu Quý district), was
working about 27 nautical miles south of Phu Quý Island (coordinates 10°04'N -
108°56'E) when it began taking on water and faced the risk of sinking. The
captain requested emergency rescue assistance.
Upon
receiving the information, the Provincial Border Guard mobilized the vessel
CN09 BP 11.19.01, carrying 14 officers and soldiers, to proceed with the rescue
operation. Around 10:50 PM on April 01, the CN09 vessel reached the location of
the distressed vessel BTh 97877 TS (coordinates 10°55'N - 108°49'E) to provide
assistance. By around 11:10 PM that same day, the rescue team had successfully
rescued 20 crew members, all of whom were in stable health. Two crew members
remained missing.
By
approximately 3:00 AM on April 2, the CN09 vessel began its return journey to
Phu Quý Island. At the scene, three vessels (BTh 99117 TS, BTh 97066 TS, BTh
97127 TS) were continuing the search for the two missing crew members.
The Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention
and Search and Rescue has requested the Provincial Border Guard Command to
continue monitoring the situation and direct the Border Guard posts and Unit 2
of the Coast Guard to inform nearby fishing vessels and fishermen about the
search efforts. Additionally, Phan Thiết Maritime Information Station has been
tasked with continuing to broadcast search and rescue information to encourage
vessels passing through the area to assist in the search for the two missing
crew members.
