(binhthuan.gov.vn) Recently, responding to the Prime Minister's call for joint action to resolve the plastic waste issue and implementing the Prime Minister's Decision on promulgating the National Action Plan on the management of ocean plastic waste by 2030, the agencies, units and localities in the province have taken practical, meaningful and effective actions to combat and minimize plastic waste.

In order to continue to synchronously and effectively reduce plastic waste in the province, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just issued a directive requesting departments, agencies, units, public non-business units, Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to strengthen the management, reuse, recycling, treatment and minimization of plastic waste in the areas.

According to the Directive of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, each cadre, official, party member, public servant and employee in agencies and units must be really exemplary, active and take the lead in reducing plastic waste with practical and specific actions, such as: Using reusable bags and baskets when shopping; prioritizing the use of environmentally friendly and biodegradable products at work and in daily activities of individuals and families; Encouraging relatives and families to perform "Say no to disposable plastic products".

Along with that, the departments, agencies, public non-business units, districts, towns and cities do not use disposable banners, slogans, plastic bottles for water, straws, ... in conferences, seminars, meetings, holidays, anniversaries and office activities, but placing prioritize for the selection of environmentally friendly, recyclable products. - Pioneering and exemplifying in the waste classification first place at the office, arranging garbage cans to classify waste at agencies and units; the plastic waste and other recyclable waste should not be mixed with the organic waste.  Encouraging the treatment of organic solid waste right at the agencies or units with gardens. At the same time, strengthening the direction, management and supervision of the implementation of environmental protection, waste collection, plastic waste classification and reduction of plastic bags at agencies and units.

The Chairman of the provincial People's Committee assigns the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to preside over and coordinate in organizing movements to reduce and move towards not using plastic bags; building and implementing the communication programs on waste associated with the campaign making the world cleaner, the campaign cleaning the ocean, World Environment Day, Earth Hour, Week of Vietnam Sea and Islands, ... Strengthening inspection, examination for timely detecting and strictly handling violations of the law in the management of waste, plastic waste; strictly controlling the activities of emission, collection, recycling, reuse and treatment of waste and plastic waste in the province.

The Department of Industry and Trade to propagate and raise the awareness of organizations and individuals operating in production and business under its management about the harms of plastic waste, and encourage waste separation at first place for collection and treatment according to the law. Advocating the trade centers, supermarkets, convenience stores, consumer markets and service businesses to commit to reduce the plastic waste and limit the use of disposable plastic products or replace with environmentally friendly products.

The Department of Education and Training to study to include the awareness education on environmental protection in general, the harmful effects of plastic waste and persistent plastic bags in particular into extracurricular programs for propaganda at all levels by appropriate forms and contents. At the same time, to direct schools and educational establishments having gardens to develop programs of domestic waste classification and plastic waste minimization for students to practice; putting the waste classification and plastic waste minimization into an emulation evaluation criterion for clean, beautiful, and safe class and school.
