Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee check the actual situation of anti-drought water supply in the North of the Province

(binhthuan.gov.vn) In the afternoon of May 09, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Ngoc Hai had a practical inspection of the situation of anti-drought water supply at Bac Binh hydropower plant, the irrigation work management stations and some water plants in the Northern region of the province. Accompanying with the Chairman were representatives of relevant departments and agencies.

According to Binh Thuan Irrigation Work Exploitation LTD., CO., to May 08, 2020, the remaining useful water volume of Song Quao lake was 9.58 million m3, reaching 14.2% of the design; Dai Ninh hydropower lake had 23.23 million m3 remaining, reaching 9.2% of the design. With the current water volume, Binh Thuan Irrigation Work Exploitation LTD., CO. has built a plan to supply raw water for water plants to serve Phan Thiet city and Ma Lam town from now until June 30, 2020 with the total amount of water of 11.15 million m3, of which the water supplied from Song Quao lake is 8.94 million m3, the additional water source from Dai Ninh lake is 2.21 million m3.

 
 

In recent months, the hot weather lasted long, so the demand of using water for living and agricultural production in the dry season in 2020 has increased, plus the large amount of water permeating and evaporation created the severe shortage of drinking water, lack of water for cattle and poultry and over 13,000 hectares of dragon fruit crop in Bac Binh and Ham Thuan Bac district (without irrigation water since March 30, 2020) have been withered. Currently, Dai Ninh Hydropower Company has adjusted the flow of generators combined with water supply to the downstream of Dai Ninh hydropower to serve the drought prevention of localities in Binh Thuan province with the total amount of water discharged in May was 17.92 million m3 and in June was 20.52 million m3. Thanks to the additional water source from Dai Ninh hydroelectricity, Bac Binh Hydroelectricity Plant has now discharged water with the flow of about 1 million m3/day to promptly supplement water for domestic activities and water for cattle, poultry and irrigation water for 13,000 ha of dragon fruit crops in Bac Binh and Ham Thuan Bac district.

 

After the actual inspection and listening to the reports of the relevant departments and agencies, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Ngoc Hai requested Binh Thuan Irrigation Work Exploitation LTD., CO. to closely monitor the flow of water to the hydroelectric works systems to operate and regulate water accordingly; to organize the inventory of water sources, from there, calculating the water balance, building a specific water supply schedule for each operation system to ensure daily life, production and other essential needs from now till the end of the dry season in 2020. Along with that, the Company needs to strengthen the implementation of irrigation solutions to serve the prevention and combat of drought, water shortage such as: Dredging intake gates at reservoirs, weirs, routes, main channels, water transfer channels, etc...

Chairman of the provincial People's Committee noted Bac Binh Hydropower Plant to discharge water with the flow of about 1 million m3/day as prescribed. At the same time, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the People's Committee of Bac Binh District to continue to propagate people to use water economically, investing household water tanks and containers; At the same time, implementing the response measures to deal with drought and lack of water in the locality in order to promptly solve the water source for domestic use in the dry season of 2020.

On this occasion, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee also visited, gifted and encouraged officials and employees who are performing the task of supervising water at the water holding points of Binh Thuan Irrigation Work Exploitation LTD., CO.
