On the morning of January 6, 2023, the Department of Agriculture and Rural
Development held a conference to review the program of VietGAP standards dragon
fruit production in the province in the period of 2020 - 2022 and implementation
of plan for 2023. Mr. Phan Van Tan - Deputy Director of Department of
Agriculture and Rural Development chaired the Conference. Attending the
conference, there were leaders of the departments, agencies and districts,
towns and cities; representatives of VietGAP standards dragon fruit production
groups and enterprises and cooperatives producing and consuming dragon fruits
in the province.
By
the end of 2021, the area of dragon fruit in our province was 33,750 hectares,
with about 12,400 hectares of VietGAP certified, accounting for 35% of the
total dragon fruit area in the province and nearly 355 hectares of GlobalGAP
granted; production was about 700,000 tons/year. However, due to the impact of
the covid-19 epidemic, the price of dragon fruit dropped; at the same time,
many materials for production increased in price; high transport costs,
directly affecting the supply chain worldwide and in the country, some dragon
fruit growers destroyed the crops, the area of dragon fruit trees in the
province is now only about 26,977 hectares, reduced 5,283 ha compared to 2021;
output reaches 600,500 tons, decreased 80,400 tons compared to 2021.
Implementing
the program of VietGAP standards dragon fruit production, in the period of 2020
- 2022, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated
with relevant agencies and localities to open training courses for people and
enterprises about the production process of VietGAP dragon fruit; providing information
on production and consumption of dragon fruit in the province; propagating
effective VietGAP dragon fruit production models; mobilizing dragon fruit
growers to change from traditional production practices into commodity
production with high quality in accordance with the general development trend
of the world. As a result, in 2 years (2020 - 2022), the province has an
additional 9,063 hectares of VietGAP standards dragon fruit production.
