Consumer price index in August decreases slightly

(binhthuan.gov.vn) The adjustment of gasoline, oil, food and foodstuff prices has helped the consumer price index (CPI) in August to decrease slightly compared to the previous month.
Specifically, according to the Provincial Statistics Office, the CPI in August 2024 decreases by 0.20% compared to the previous month, and increases by 4.14% compared to the same period last year and by 2.40% compared to December last year. The average CPI in the first 8 months of 2024 compared to the average in the same period last year increases by 4.39%.
Compared to the previous month, prices of most of the 11 main consumer goods and services groups increased: Garments, hats and footwear by 0.95%; Beverages and tobacco by 0.22%; Household appliances and equipment by 0.20%; Housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials by 0.15%; Culture, entertainment and tourism by 0.13%; Post and telecommunications by 0.12%; Other goods and services by 0.11%; Medicines and medical services by 0.03%; Education by 0.03%.
There are 2 groups of goods with price reduction: Transportation by 2.21%; Food and catering services by 0.25%.
Analysis by the Provincial Statistics Office also pointed out the reasons for the decrease in CPI in August 2024 compared to the previous month include: Domestic gasoline and oil prices were adjusted on August 1, 2024, August 8, 2024, August 15, 2024 and August 22, 2024, on average in August 2024, gasoline and oil products decreased by 5.22% compared to the previous month; Food prices decreased by 1.43% compared to the previous month, mainly rice products decreased due to the summer-autumn rice harvest season with abundant supply, so market prices decreased compared to the previous month; Food prices decreased by 0.18% compared to the previous month, mainly meat products, poultry, fresh seafood.
