for consumption, shopping, and travel near the Lunar New Year is one of the
many reasons why the consumer price index (CPI) in January 2024 increased by
0.52% compared to last month.
According to the
Provincial Statistics Office, January 2024 is the month approaching the Lunar
New Year, so people's consumption, shopping, and travel needs all increase;
prices of food, eating out and public transportation services increased
slightly; prices of essential consumer goods and services increase according to
consumption rules near Tet; domestic gas prices adjusted to increase according
to world market prices. These are the main reasons why CPI in January 2024
increased by 0.52% over the previous month, up by 2.9% over the same period
last year.
Among the 11 main
groups of consumer goods and services, most product groups increased in price
compared to the previous month, specifically: Garments, hats and shoes
increased by 0.9%; beverages and tobacco by 0.9%; Food and beverage services by
0.6%; housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials by 0.6%;
other goods and services by 0.5%; household appliances by 0.5%; transportation
by 0.4%; culture, entertainment and tourism by 0.2%; post and
telecommunications by 0.1%; education by 0.1%; medicines and medical services
by 0.03%.
Statistical data
also shows that the estimated retail revenue of goods and revenue from service
industries in January 2024 will reach 8,471.9 billion VND, up by 2.1% over the
previous month and by 12.0% over the same period last year. Of which, retail sales
of goods reached 5,782.5 billion VND, up by 2.5% over the previous month and by
17.7% over the same period last year. Revenue from service industries in
January 2024 is estimated to reach 2,689.4 billion VND, up by 1.3% over the
previous month and by 1.5% over the same period last year./.
