Efforts to bring Binh Thuan dragon fruit to Japanese consumers

(binhthuan.gov.vn) On October 7, after more than 3 years of submitting the application for protection of geographical indications in Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) officially granted the protection certificate of geographical indications to Binh Thuan dragon fruit.

The geographical indication of Binh Thuan dragon fruit protected in Japan can be said as a "passport" to enter the Japanese market in particular and the world in general. The grant of geographical indication registration in Japan affirms the prestige of Binh Thuan dragon fruit in the Japanese market, opening up many new opportunities for the export and consumption of Binh Thuan dragon fruit in many different markets, especially in fastidious markets (Europe, Korea, New Zealand ...).

Currently, the geographical indication of "Binh Thuan dragon fruit" has been protected by the European Union (EU). Along with that, the image and trademark "Binh Thuan DRAGON FRUIT" has been registered and protected by 13 countries and territories such as the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Korea, France, Japan, and Thailand. … The cooperatives that produce and trade dragon fruits, including: Thuan Tien, Hoa Le, Hong Son, Ham Minh 30 have been granted the certificate of collective mark registration by the National Office of Intellectual Property.
