Enhancing change in perception on gender balance

(binhthuan.gov.vn) Binh Thuan is one of the provinces where the gender ratio at birth has fluctuated unsteadily over the years, but it is still higher than the national average. The high gender ratio at birth is a major challenge for the health sector, requiring drastic solutions to control the gender imbalance at birth, contributing to ensuring socio-economic stability.

It is forecasted that by 2034, Vietnam will have a surplus of 1.5 million men and increase to 2.5 million by 2059. The gender imbalance at birth has a significant impact on the demographic structure and social consequences as it is difficult for a man to find a woman to marry; and some occupations suitable for women will face to the risk of labor shortage.

According to Plan No. 2519 of the Provincial People's Committee, Binh Thuan aims to reduce the growth rate of the gender ratio at birth by 2025 to less than 111 boys / 100 girls. However, changing the perception of gender and gender balance as well as family planning is not something that can be done overnight, or a single task of a department or a locality, but it is needed the participation of the whole social community to build a perfect future generation from the family environment itself./.
