Granting Thay Thim Palace Festival into the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List

(binhthuan.gov.vn) On January 12, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision to announce the list of national intangible cultural heritages for Thay Thim Palace Festival, Tan Tien commune, La Gi town, province. Binh Thuan.

Thay Thim Palace Festival was created, maintained and existed in association with the history of forming practices related to the religion of Thay Thim worship of the local community over the past 130 years. Thay Thim is a way to show the people's respect for the couple, the talented and compassionate Taoists who have made many contributions to helping poor people in life. Because the name of the Taoist couple is unknown, after their death, the locals respectfully call them Thay and Thim (masters). In order to pay their tributes, the previous generations of ancestors built a shrine to worship Thay Thim.

For a long time, Thay Thim Palace Festival has been considered as a unique and typical traditional festival, for not only of the local community but also a common cultural heritage of many neighboring provinces and cities in the southern region and normally held on the full moon of September every year.

According to the Decision, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposes the Chairpersons of People's Committees at all levels where the intangible cultural heritages are included in the List, within the ambit of their duties and powers, to implement the state management of intangible cultural heritages in accordance with the law on cultural heritages.
