Ham Thuan Bac lost about 5 billion VND due to prolonged heavy rain

(binhthuan.gov.vn) The Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has just reported damage caused by heavy rain in Ham Thuan Bac district.

Accordingly, from September 25 to October 2, Ham Thuan Bac district had continuous heavy rain for many days, causing water from upstream to flow into rivers, streams, and inner canals. At the same time, the rain combined with the discharge of Suoi Da Lake flooded many people's crop areas in Ham Phu, Hong Son, Thuan Minh, Hong Liem, Thuan Hoa communes...

According to local statistics, the total flooded area is 1,172 hectares, including 43 hectares of dragon fruit, 3 hectares of perennial fruit trees and 738 hectares of crop rice. In addition, floods swept away 240 chickens of households in Hong Liem and Thuan Hoa communes; 300 m landslide of internal field road in group 3 of Doc Lang village, Thuan Minh commune. Estimated total damage value is about 5 billion VND.

As soon as flooding occurs, the People's Committees of communes and towns mobilized forces ready to support households in times of emergency. However, with a lot of rain, the slope of the streams is high, and the agricultural fields are flat and low-lying, so a lot of water flows in, and the irrigation system cannot drain in time, causing flooding in many rice crop areas in the area.

Currently, communes and towns have inspected and mobilized forces and vehicles to dredge canals and gather moss and trash at the internal drainage sewers to clear the flow so that water can drain quickly, limiting duration of flooding.
