Ham Thuan Nam district strengthens the sustainable protection and development of forest area

According to the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Nam district, in order to
protect and develop sustainably the existing forest area and the newly created
forest area in the period of 2021 - 2025; contributing to maintain stability
and increase the forest cover rate in the district to over 43%; improving the
ability to defense and protect the forest environment, conserve biodiversity,
minimizing negative impacts caused by natural disasters, and enhancing
adaptability to climate change, in the coming time, the District People's
Committee will promote communication on the role, economic, social and
environmental values of forests in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,
absorbing and storing carbon, and responding to climate change and protecting
national defense and security; raising people's awareness on sustainable forest
development, large timber plantations with high productivity and quality, using
legal origin forest products; disseminating the law on forestry to the people,
raising social awareness on forest management and protection, forest fire
prevention and fighting, and prevention of illegal cutting and deforestation.
The objectives are to
gradually develop the forestry sector in the district towards modernity,
efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness, linking in chains from forest
development, forest protection, forest use to processing and trading of forest
products; managing, protecting, developing and using sustainably forest areas
and land areas planned for forestry development; promoting the potential, role
and effects of forests to make an increasingly important contribution to
socio-economic development; contributing to create jobs and increase incomes
for people in association with protecting the ecological environment,
conserving biodiversity of forest ecosystems, enhancing the ability for climate
change adaptation, and minimizing negative effects caused by natural disasters,
reducing greenhouse gas emissions, absorbing and storing carbon dioxide from
forests; contributing to the national security defense and protection.
Therefore, besides
forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting and development of special-use
forests, protection forests and coastal forests, Ham Thuan Nam district also
focuses on developing forestry tree varieties, planting large timber forests;
developing non-timber forest products and forest product processing industry.
