(binhthuan.gov.vn) Hand, foot and mouth disease tends to increase rapidly and strongly in many localities of Binh Thuan province. This requires people to further raise their awareness of disease prevention and take measures to effectively prevent and control the disease.

In the first 5 months of 2023, the infectious disease surveillance system has recorded about 04 to 13 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease per month in Binh Thuan. Entering June, the number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases continued to increase with 130 cases. However, by July, this number has increased threefold.

Facing this situation, the prevention and control of hand, foot and mouth disease is extremely urgent as determined by the Binh Thuan’s health sector. The seasons are changing, rain and sun rotate erratically, which are favorable conditions for the development of the epidemic. Moreover, children soon return to school will increase the possibility of spreading the disease to the community.

La Gi town is currently the area with the highest number of hand, foot and mouth infections in the province. As of July 25, 2023, in La Gi town, 119 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have been recorded. In July alone, the whole town recorded 78 cases. Notably, 2 deaths were recorded. Currently, the town has handled the hand, foot and-mouth disease outbreaks in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health.

The number of new cases now tends to increase strongly in many localities across the province. According to the Provincial Center for Disease Control, the annual circulation cycle of hand, foot and mouth disease in the period 2017-2021 increases sharply from August to October. In the last two years, the disease tends to increase earlier.

According to doctors, hand, foot and mouth disease often occurs in children, especially children under 5 years old. However, adults can completely be infected if the immune system is not strong enough to fight the virus.

In order to control the epidemic, the Health sector will strengthen inspection and supervision, especially at private children's groups and preschools. At the same time, increase awareness of regular hygiene and keep the environment clean and nicely./.
