Hybrid corn in Ham Can commune is damaged by drought

(binhthuan.gov.vn) The local drought and hot weather lasting from July 17 to July 30, 2022 have damaged a large area of hybrid maize in the flowering and fruiting stage, greatly affecting the yield and quality of harvested corn in Ham Can commune, Ham Thuan Nam district.

According to the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, despite of propagating and mobilizing people in the commune to use water sparingly, giving priority to the maximum water source for daily life and production, the prolonged drought has led to a lack of water for agricultural production, making 87 ha of hybrid corn of 62 households grow poorly, affecting corn productivity. The damage is estimated about 575 million VND.

As soon as the disaster occurred, the People's Committee of Ham Can commune has directed the Production Steering Committee of the commune to coordinate with the agency stores of the Provincial Mountain Service Center and the Executive Board of the villages to conduct the survey to gain the actual situation, listing the affected households to propose the superiors for considering and support the people; at the same time, to propagandize and mobilize people in the commune to use water sparingly, giving maximum priority to water sources for daily life and production.

The District Division of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with relevant agencies, units, and the People's Committee of Ham Can commune to inspect, verify, and record the damage of hybrid corn crop to synthesize, advise the District People's Committee to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and support for people's damages; visit and encourage people for their stabilization.
