According to the Provincial Statistics Office, in March, fisheries output is estimated at 16,895 tons, up by 2.6% over the same period last year. Accumulated in the first quarter is estimated at 49,562 tons, up by 2% over the same period last year (of which marine exploitation is estimated at 49,408.2 tons, up by 2% over the same period last year). In exploitation activities on marine fishing grounds, the offshore fishing fleets are strictly managed; strictly implementing regulations on prohibiting the development of trawling in any form, complying with the quota on the number of exploitation licenses in offshore areas as announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Aquatic seed production activities are also relatively favorable when shrimp seed production associated with quarantine work, sample analysis and testing are maintained regularly; strengthening management of shrimp seed quality to maintain the quality and brand of Binh Thuan shrimp seed on the market. During the month, the production is estimated at 1.9 billion shrimp seeds, up by 3% over the same period last year. In the first quarter, the number is estimated at 5.6 billion seeds, up by 2.1% over the same period last year.
During the quarter, the provincial functional authorities focused on drastically implementing the direction of the Central Government and the province on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated seafood exploitation; overcome shortcomings and limitations in combating IUU fishing according to the conclusions of the European Commission Inspection Team; continue to promote the effectiveness of the cruise surveillance system in monitoring and preventing fishing vessels from crossing allowed boundaries at sea, monitoring fishing vessels entering and exiting ports, loading and unloading products, and tracing the origin of seafood and cargos, enforcing laws on IUU fishing in accordance with regulations. As of March 15, 2024, there have been no cases of fishing vessels and fishermen being arrested by foreign countries; regarding violations of aquatic resources, 10 cases of administrative violations were detected and sanctioned.
