Inspecting and controlling the operating conditions of fishing vessels

(binhthuan.gov.vn) According to the Fisheries Sub-Department, through the review and statistics of fishing vessels in the province, 33 fishing vessels with a length of 15 meters or more were purchased by fishermen in the province from Binh Dinh and Ba Ria - Vung but has not yet been re-registered in Binh Thuan, and currently operating in offshore waters.

 

Of which, there are 06 vessels in Tuy Phong district, 13 vessels in Phan Thiet city, 14 vessels in La Gi town. These are fishing vessels that violate IUU fishing, causing difficulties and complications in the management and prevention of illegal fishing vessels, especially potential high risk of fishing vessels violating foreign waters due to they still work with the old registration numbers.

 

In order to strengthen the management of fishing vessels in accordance with the Law on Fisheries 2017 and strictly implement the Prime Minister's Decision No. 81/QD-TTg dated February 13, 2023 on the Action Plan against IUU fishing, prepare for 4th meeting with the inspection team of European Commission, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to quickly direct the People's Committees of communes, where fishermen buying fishing vessels outside the province, to review and ask owners  to complete the purchase procedures to re-register in accordance with regulations. Fishermen who buy fishing vessels outside the province should directly contact the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Sub-Department of Fisheries for detailed instructions.

 

At the same time, directing local functional forces such as Border Guard and Fisheries Control to inspect and control the operating conditions of fishing vessels purchased outside the province that have not yet been re-registered and fishing vessels from outside the province operating in the water of the province to take strict measures according to regulations.
