Japan to protect the geographical indication of Binh Thuan dragon fruit

construction and development of geographical indications is a strategy to
conserve the biodiversity, traditional cultures, and increase the commercial
competitiveness, helping to promote the potential of local resources, while
promoting the fight against commercial abuse and fraud; raising the consumer
awareness and increasing the competitiveness of products; contributing to the product
value improvement, increasing profit value, promoting the process of
agricultural and rural development.
In order to support Binh Thuan dragon
fruit to expand the market, increase the official export ability, circulate in
many fastidious markets, as well as to implement the Extensive Strategic
Statement between Vietnam - Japan, the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam
- the Ministry of Science and Technology has selected Binh Thuan dragon fruit
to register for protection of geographical indications in Japan.
Till 07/10/2021, Binh Thuan dragon
fruit has been officially approved by the Food Industry Affairs Bureau - the Ministry
of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan for the geographical indication
protection. The grant of geographical indication protection for Binh Thuan
dragon fruit products is likened to a "travel pass" to enter the
Japanese market; At the same time, it affirms the prestige of Binh Thuan dragon
fruit, which has been trusted and accepted by Japan. Since then, it has opened
up many new opportunities for exporting and consuming Binh Thuan dragon fruit
in several other fastidious markets in Europe, Korea, New Zaeland, etc.
