Many models of growing medicinal plants under the forest canopy bring high economic efficiency

(binhthuan.gov.vn) In order to implement Resolution 05-NQ/TU on development of a modern, sustainable, high-value-added agricultural industry of the Provincial Party Committee (Term XIV) issued on September 10, 2021; in which, there was the task of "Developing a model of growing medicinal plants under the forest canopy and sustainable forms of eco-tourism associated with forest development and protection". The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the Provincial Forest Protection Sub-Department to build models of medicinal plants under the forest canopy in the province.

Currently, medicinal plants grown under the forest canopy are mainly high-value species, which have a large market for consumption such as Ganoderma lucidum, Panax ginseng, yam under the canopy of natural forests and planted forests belongs to the forest areas of the Protection Forest Management Boards: Song Mao, Song Luy, Hong Phu, Song Mong - Ca Pet and the Management Board of Ta Kou Nature Reserve.

The cultivation of medicinal plants under the forest canopy brings very high economic efficiency as according to the current market price, 1 kg of Ganoderma lucidum costs from 700,000 VND to 1 million VND; fresh yam cost about 50,000 VND to 100,000 VND/kg depending on the season; 1kg of fresh ginseng root costs from 300 thousand VND to 700 thousand VND depending on the variety.
