Nearly 50 hectares of corn in Ham Thuan Nam district were waterlogged and leaf burnt due to heavy rains

(binhthuan.gov.vn) The Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue has just made a quick statistic on the situation of corn plants damaged by heavy rains causing flooding, leaf blight disease, and failure to grow in the areas of Village 1 and Village 2, My Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district.

 

Accordingly, from mid-August 2023, heavy rains have frequently occurred in villages 1 and 2, My Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, causing local flooding. In particular, due to prolonged heavy rains, a lot of water from upstream could not drain in time, causing flooding on crops, especially the corn growing areas. District statistics show that up to now, about 48.6 hectares of corn have been damaged in My Thanh commune (damage ranges from 30 - 70%). Estimated total value of damage is about 486 million VND.

 

Facing the damages to agricultural production due to heavy rains, the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Nam district has directed the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue of the district and My Thanh commune to instruct farmers on measures to respond, prevent and care for plants after natural disasters occur, check and verify the situation of damaged corn plants. The District People's Committee also has requested the People's Committee of My Thanh commune to compile records and verify the specific area and percentage of damaged crops for the authority to consider and support those farmers.

 

The Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue has requested the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Nam district to direct the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue of the district to coordinate with communes and towns to strengthen the duty works to receive daily newsletters to promptly inform and warn people on dangerous weather conditions, heavy rains and floods for their proactive prevention. Instruct people on measures to respond, prevent and care for plants after natural disasters occur.
