Over 500 hectares of crops were flooded due to heavy rain in Ham Thuan Bac district

to the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and
Control, Search and Rescue, in 2 days of April 30 and May 01, there was heavy
rain lasting long and large scale in Ham Thuan Bac district. Along with the
water from upstream to rivers, streams, and in-field canals. In addition, heavy
rain combined with flood discharge of Suoi Da lake has flooded many crop areas
of people in Ham Phu, Hong Son, Thuan Minh, Ham Thang, Hong Liem, Thuan Hoa
communes. As a result, it flooded many areas of dragon fruit, rice, and other
crops that were in the planting period (mostly rice planted from 5 to 20 days).
According to initial
statistics, the total agricultural production area was flooded with more than
500 hectares. In which, the area of dragon fruit trees was flooded 60 hectares
in Hong Son commune; flooded rice area (mainly from 5 days to 20 days old) was 437
ha; crops and vegetables: 21 hectares. Estimated value of damage is about 1
billion VND.
The Steering
Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue of Ham
Thuan Bac district has mobilized the volunteer forces of the communes, coordinated
with the local people to immediately deploy the opening of the drainage canal
and the pumping of flood drainage. At the same time, requested the People's
Committees of communes and townships to organize serious duties and inform
people in the communes on the situation to proactively prevent and minimize
damage caused by rain, flood and inundation.
