Over 93% fishing boats of Binh Thuan province installed the cruise monitoring equipment

the installation of cruise monitoring equipment for fishing boats is one of the
important method to implement effectively the prevention measures against the
illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) ), over the past time, all
levels, sectors and forces have focused and drastically accelerated the
implementation of the installation of cruise monitoring equipment for 1,925
fishing ships with full length of 15m or more when fishing at sea in accordance
with the Law on Fisheries 2017 and Article 44 of Decree No 26/2019/ND-CP of the
Government.
As of 19/3/2021, the province had
1,796/1,925 fishing boats installed the cruise monitoring equipment, reaching
93%. In which, the group of ships from 24m and over has installed 35 boats,
reaching 100%; the group of fishing boats from 15m to less than 24m installed
1,761 boats, 93.3%. The remaining 129 fishing boats have not installed VMS
equipment because some boats have been sold are on the procedure of changing
owners or several boat owners are facing financial difficulties, making losses,
so they cannot afford it.
Currently, the province is actively
completing the installation of fishing boat cruise monitoring equipment,
effectively operating and exploiting the fishing boat monitoring system to
monitor fishing boats operating at sea for detecting, stopping and promptly
handling fishing boats that violate the foreign waters. At the same time,
monitoring and supervising the voyage of fishing boats to promptly handle any
cases of losing VMS connection at sea for preventing fishing boats from losing
connection at sea due to system errors.
In recent years, the fight against IUU
fishing, especially the prevention of illegal fishing boats in foreign waters,
has been closely and continuously directed by the Provincial Party Committee
and People's Committee of Binh Thuan province through the deployment of many
drastic solution, combining all together the propaganda, education, inspection,
supervision, warning, and timely prevention, especially for fishing boats
operating in remote waters, the groups of objects at high risk of encroaching
on foreign waters.
As a result, from July 2019 up to now,
Binh Thuan has no fishing boats or fishermen violating the foreign waters. Particularly
in the first quarter of 2021, the Sub – Department of Fisheries discovered and
promptly called back 01 case of fishing boat crossing the boundary of
Vietnamese waters through the Fishing Boat Monitoring Center.
