Phan Thiet strengthens the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases due to El Nino phenomenon
(binhthuan.gov.vn) The People's Committee of Phan Thiet city has just issued a written request to relevant divisions and units, People's Committees of communes and wards in the city to strengthen the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases due to El Nino phenomenon.
According to the Phan Thiet City People's Committee, the World Health Organization said that in 2023 and 2024, the El Nino phenomenon could increase the transmission of dengue fever and other arboviruses such as Zika, Chikungunya, encephalitis Japan. Climate change is also promoting mosquito breeding and increasing mosquito-borne diseases. According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the El Nino phenomenon is likely to occur in the second half of 2023. In addition, the weather is now starting to enter the rainy season, creating favorable conditions for disease-carrying mosquitoes to thrive.
In order to strengthen the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases due to El Nino phenomenon, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requests the Office of the City People's Council and People's Committee to coordinate with the City Health Center to monitor the situation of the epidemic to promptly advise and propose the City People's Committee for the supervision and direction; advise the organization of an interdisciplinary inspection team to inspect and supervise the implementation and direction of disease prevention in the city.
The City Health Center shall closely monitor, supervise and thoroughly handle infectious disease outbreaks in the area. Ensuring 100% of outbreaks are detected and handled promptly. At the same time, coordinating and guiding localities to deploy activities on larva elimination; maintaining the activity once a week in high-risk areas, once every two weeks in areas with high mosquito, larva index, and once a month in other areas. Reviewing and organizing vaccination on Japanese encephalitis for children effectively and timely. In addition, well organizing the collection and treatment of patients, to minimize the number of deaths, preparing treatment decentralization plan to support lower lines to avoid overload; ensuring sufficient medicines, equipment and medical supplies for medical examination and treatment.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee requests the Culture and Information Division, Phan Thiet Radio and Television Station to coordinate with the health sector to strengthen the implementation of propaganda activities on epidemic prevention, diversifying communication activities for the people to understand and proactively taking epidemic prevention measures such as: Killing mosquitoes, sleeping in bed nets to prevent mosquito bites, communicating on signs of dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases, and instructing people not to take self-treatment at home when sick, but to immediately go to medical facilities for timely examination and treatment.
The People's Committees of wards and communes shall mobilize local units, mass organizations, socio-political organizations to coordinate with the health sector to carry out activities on larva elimination in the area. Ensuring that all households in epidemic-affected and at-risk areas must be checked and monitored for tanks, containers, items, waste, and breeding places of mosquitoes to conduct forms of extermination of larva. Strengthening propaganda work on local loudspeakers so that people understand and actively take epidemic prevention measures.
