Preliminary summary of Binh Thuan Plastic Waste Management Project

On the morning of June 16, the Provincial Women's Union held a preliminary
conference of the project “Connecting resources in reducing ocean waste in Phu
Quy, Tuy Phong and Phan Thiet” (referred to as Binh Thuan Plastic Waste
Management Project). Attending the conference, there were representatives of
the UNDP Global Environment Facility, the Fisheries Department, the Tourism Association
and the localities implementing the project, including Phan Thiet city, Tuy
Phong district and Phu Quy district.
The Binh Thuan
Plastic Waste Management Project is funded by the Global Environment Facility,
the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/GEF SGP) with a total fund of
more than 3.3 billion VND, of which the aid from the United Nations Development
Programme is more than 1.3 billion VND. The project is implemented in 2 years
(2020 - 2022) in the following localities: Phan Thiet city, Tuy Phong district,
and Phu Quy district. In particular, focusing in places where generate a lot of
plastic waste such as: Phan Thiet fishing port, Nguyen Dinh Chieu tourist route
(Phan Thiet city); Lien Huong fishing port, tourist vessels from the mainland
coast of Lien Huong town to Hon Cau (Tuy Phong district); Tam Thanh, Ngu Phung
and Long Hai communes (Phu Quy district).
At the conference,
the delegates discussed on a number of difficulties, limitations and proposed
some solutions to improve the efficiency of models in the project such as:
fishing vessel model at Phan Thiet port, Lien Huong port, and cruise ships in
Tuy Phong; model of Nguyen Dinh Chieu coastal global citizen route, Phan Thiet
city; also to promote propaganda to gain a wide impact on the community…
