Production, processing and consumption of dragon fruit in the province

(binhthuan.gov.vn) According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, currently the area of dragon fruit in our province is 33,750 hectares, with 700,000 tons/year of output, including 12,397 hectares of VietGAP and 560 hectares of GlobalGAP Certificates. There are over 200 dragon fruit farms ranging from tens of hectares to hundreds of hectares/farm; the farming forms are gradually improved by applying mechanization to production, and gradually reducing manual labor. In particular, many farms have applied smart technology in water-saving irrigation combined with fertilizer and pesticide irrigation on dragon fruit trees.

In order to support farmers in the production, processing and consumption of dragon fruit in the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate with relevant departments, agencies and localities to reorganize the production to form a large-scale dragon fruit-growing area applying high-tech and organic standards of VietGAP and GlobalGAP, promoting the application of water-saving irrigation technology. Connecting and sharing information between localities on production, crop, output and harvest to determine the consumption market; promoting the role of cooperatives in operating production and business, seeking for outputs and consumption for members, gradually forming a sustainable value chain from input to output; developing a system of storage and preservation of fresh dragon fruit.

Continuing to encourage and support businesses to invest in technology and equipment to process high-quality products for ensuring food safety in order to meet market requirements and contribute to reduce pressure of fresh dragon fruit consumption.
