(binhthuan.gov.vn) Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority has just received information on a stranded cargo ship at Tuy Phong sea.

Accordingly, at 10:50 a.m. on September 3, this unit received information from Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - representative of Phuc Hai VT Joint Stock Company. The information stated that the cargo ship Phuc Hai 19 (registration number: V72-00511, total capacity 582 GT, deadweight 998 tons) owned by Phuc Hai VT Joint Stock Company, located at ward 11, Vung Tau city, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. The ship had 6 crew members, non-loaded, and was traveling from Quang Ngai to Tra Vinh.

While traveling through the sea area of Phan Ri Cua, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province, it encountered strong winds and waves. Therefore, this vehicle sought a place to anchor on August 28, 2024. During the anchoring, at about 4:00 p.m. on August 30, the anchor was broken off, leading the ship to be drifted and stranded on an alluvial land about 200m from the breakwater south of the Luy River.

Currently, the ship has a hole (20cm x 30cm), water has flooded into the engine room and is not tilted. There is still about 1 ton of DO oil on the ship, the oil valves have been closed, all crew members have gone ashore safely, there is no one on the vehicle.

After receiving the information, Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority requested the ship owner to coordinate with the captain to urgently conduct research and develop a rescue plan and submit it to the competent authority for approval. At the same time, it requested relevant agencies and units, based on their assigned functions and tasks, to proactively and readily prepare scenarios and plans to respond to possible oil spill incidents.
