Requesting and guiding boats to the safe anchorage

(binhthuan.gov.vn) In order to actively respond to storm No. 9 (RAI), the functional forces and coastal localities of Binh Thuan province are urgently deploying plans and measures to be ready to respond to the storm's developments.

Accordingly, the Provincial Border Guard Command has directed border posts in the province to notify and communicate with vehicles operating at sea about the storm's situation on the unit's watch system, turning radio on 24/24 to receive information, control boats, guide vehicle owners if anything goes wrong.

As of 11 a.m. on December 18, the whole province of Binh Thuan had 696 boats with 4,586 workers operating at sea, of which 131 are fishing offshore. Through communication, it has not been recorded any boat operating in dangerous areas. Currently, there are more than 6,988 boats moored at ports in the province. In addition, there are 82 boats with 395 crew members from other provinces and cities moored in the province.

To proactively respond to RAI, Binh Thuan also prepares a plan to relocate and evacuate more than 46,900 people in weak and coastal areas that are directly affected when the storm hits. In which, Phu Quy island district needs to relocate and evacuate 219 households with 991 people.

From the mid-night of December 18 to the early morning of December 20, it is forecasted that at Ly Son island: winds at level 10, gusts approaching level 12; at Phu Quy island: winds at level 8, gusts approaching level 10. All ships and boats operating in dangerous areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds, high waves and tornadoes. It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the storm will move quickly in the west-northwest direction, at a speed of 20-25km per hour. The strongest wind is in the area near storm’s eys at level 13-14, gusts approaching level 16.
