Strictly handling violations of foreign waters for illegal fishing

(binhthuan.gov.vn) Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with relevant departments, agencies and People's Committees of coastal districts, towns and cities to strictly handle organizations and individuals involved in operations of vessels violating foreign waters for illegal fishing as prescribed in Article 20, Decree no 42/2019/ND-CP of the Government.

Completing the installation of VMS equipment on fishing vessels for fishing vessels that are required to install cruise monitoring devices according to the provisions of Decree no 26/2019/ND-CP dated 08/3/2019 of the Government. At the same time, strictly handling any case of non-equipping, non-maintaining the operation or removing the cruise monitoring equipment during operations at sea.

Developing and issuing the internal procedures on inspection, examination, controlling and handling of fishing vessels showing signs of law violation through VMS cruise monitoring devices; monitoring and supervising of VMS journeys 24/7 in order to promptly detect, warn, prevent and handle fishing vessels illegally operating in foreign waters.

Developing a coordination regulation between agencies, units and localities with the law enforcement forces at sea to ensure consistency, clearly assigning tasks and responsibilities in coordination of handling the violated fishing vessels in order to prevent and stop fishing vessels from violating foreign waters.

Continuing to strengthen the propaganda and dissemination of IUU regulations to local fishing vessel owners, captains and fishermen, especially the ship owners whose fishing vessels violated and are at high risk of violations of foreign waters for fisheries exploitation.
