Tanh Linh lost over 32 billion VND due to heavy rain and flash floods that occurred from the evening of July 25 to July 30, 2023.

(binhthuan.gov.vn) According to a quick report of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, from July 25 to 30, 2023, the prolonged heavy rains, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, and floods occurred in Tanh Linh caused 1 death and damaged housing, agricultural production and infrastructure with estimated total damage of over 32 billion dong.


Specifically, heavy rain lasted from the evening of July 25 to July 30, 2023 accompanied by tornadoes that caused flooding and landslides in the whole district of Tanh Linh, killing one person, named Nguyen Thi Ta, born in 1976, due to slippage while going to the field near Suoi Chua stream, Nghi Duc commune, leading to being swept away by water at 2:30 p.m. on July 29, 2023. At about 9 p.m. the same day, Ms. T's body was found. The locality coordinated with the family to bring the victim's body home for burial. Currently, local authorities and mass organizations have visited and offered condolences the victim's family.


Regarding houses, about 28 houses have been partially flooded (flood level at over 0.5-1 m), of which, 6 households have to relocate and arrange temporary accommodation because the water level is too high (over 1m). It collapsed about 160 m of fence of all kinds of 3 households in hamlet 1, Gia Huynh commune.


Regarding agricultural production, 1,200 ha of summer-autumn rice crop 2023 in Duc Phu and Mang To communes; Bac Ruong; Huy Khiem; Duc Binh; Duc Thuan; Lac Tanh; La Ngau; Gia An was flooded at the time of harvest; the crop is currently flooded, so the extent of damage has not been assessed. In the coming time, if heavy rain lasts for a long, the water cannot drain off, the possibility of damage will be over 70%. Estimated value of damage is about 24 billion VND. In addition, 20 cashew trees about 4 years old of Mr. Nguyen Van Hai in hamlet 1, Gia Huynh commune, were knocked down, the damage is over 50%.


For freshwater aquaculture, in Dong Kho commune, it completely drifted, destroyed fish cages causing totally losses to households along La Nga river, specifically: The number of fish cages with 100% damage was 15 units/4,698 m3, total damage estimated at over 4 billion VND. In Gia An commune, 5 aquaculture ponds along Bien Lac lake, total area about 12 ha, were flooded with water over 1m high, completely losing fishes in 70-85 days old (carp, halibut, goby); estimated value of damage is about 1.8 billion VND. For livestock, large flood swept away 30 poultry over 28 days old in Suoi Kiet commune.


In terms of infrastructure, Duc Phu commune suffered from erosion of the in-field canal, the section through village 1 and 2, about 17m long and 5m wide. In Mang To commune, downstream of the flood drainage canal, embankment 41 has been eroded for a length of about 15m and 3m wide at the location of the regulation cluster combined with the internal field bridge 41. Dike route 41 overflowing water is at risk of landslide. The dike route covering 41 is at risk of landslide for a section of 40m long and 3m wide. The main road at the location of the regulation cluster combined with the in-field bridge 41 was eroded for a part of 30m. In Bac Ruong commune, landslides swept away about 200 m of the in-field road. In Huy Khiem commune, many rural roads were also eroded due to high water overflowing across the roads. In La Ngau commune, a number of roads located on National Highway 55, the section through La Ngau commune, suffered from landslides in some locations, causing traffic jams for many hours...


After the damage occurred, the district People's Committee directed the district's Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue to coordinate and direct the communes to mobilize all voluntary forces to preliminarily overcome the damage situation. Accordingly, the locality has mobilized the people to join hands in handling and picking up garbage on flood drainage systems and streams in order to limit flooding and protect the bridges caused by trees and garbage, blocking the flow. In La Ngau commune, the Economic and Infrastructure Division of the district has coordinated and promptly informed the Road Management District to mobilize specialized vehicles to clean up soil, rocks, and trees that have been eroded onto the roads, ensuring traffic at National Highway 55. In Suoi Kiet and Gia Huynh communes, to mobilize the voluntary forces to be on duty 24/24 at the flooding points of the local residential areas in Suoi Kiet commune to support people in protecting belongings and arranging temporary accommodation for deeply flooded households.


The Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue requests the People's Committee of Tanh Linh District to direct the District Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, the district's Divisions and Units, and the voluntary forces to coordinate with the People's Committees of the suffered communes continuously to dredge, clear the system of in-field canals, rivers and streams lows to ensure flood drainage. Installing warning signs and information for people at the locations of landslides to ensure traffic safety. After the flood receded, inspecting and assessing the damage level, synthesizing reports to advise and propose to the District People's Committee the early solutions to repair the collapsed traffic infrastructure, helping to stabilize the lives of people.
