Typhoon No. 5 Report in the East Sea

(binhthuan.gov.vn) According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Typhoon No. 5 (Krathon) is currently active in the northeastern waters of the East Sea.

Accordingly, at 1 PM on October 2, the center of the typhoon was positioned at approximately 21.9 degrees North latitude and 119.4 degrees East longitude, in the northeastern waters of the North East Sea. The strongest winds near the center of the typhoon are categorized at levels 14-15 (150-183 km/h), with gusts exceeding level 17. The typhoon is moving in a northeast direction at a speed of 5-10 km/h.

It is forecast that in the next 24 to 72 hours, Typhoon No. 5 will move towards southern Taiwan while gradually weakening. The wind speeds are expected to decrease to levels 11-12, with gusts reaching level 15. By October 4, the typhoon will continue to move northeast towards Taiwan at a speed of 10 km/h, with wind speeds significantly reduced to level 8 and gusts reaching level 11, before weakening into a tropical depression.

According to the current forecast, Typhoon Krathon is not expected to impact the coastal areas or the mainland. However, the northeastern waters of the North East Sea are experiencing strong winds ranging from levels 9 to 11, with winds near the center of the typhoon reaching levels 13 to 15 and gusts exceeding level 17. Wave heights are anticipated to be between 8.0 and 10.0 meters, resulting in extremely rough seas. Vessels operating in these hazardous areas are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds, and high waves.
