(binhthuan.gov.vn) The Ministry of
Health has just recommended that in case of force majeure, the second dose can
be administered with the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer or Moderna. If
it is injected the first dose with Moderna, the second dose can be given with
Pfizer and vice versa.
On the evening of 08/9/2021, the
Ministry of Health said that stemming from the actual situation, the need to
use COVID-19 vaccine aimed at increasing coverage, early and on-time injection
to prevent and control the epidemic, on 08/9, the Ministry of Health's Expert
Advisory Council on Vaccine Use has met and made recommendations in case of
force majeure, if the supply of vaccine is not enough to inject the second
dose, the other vaccine can be used. Specifically: If the first dose is
injected with a vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca, the second dose can be
given with a vaccine manufactured by Pfizer or Moderna, if the first dose with a
vaccine manufactured by Moderna, the second dose can be given with a vaccine
manufactured by Pfizer.
Currently, Vietnam has 05 vaccines
against COVID-19 being deployed, including: AstraZeneca; Sputnik V; Pfizer; Moderna
and Sinopharm. These vaccine manufacturers recommend getting full of two doses.
The ideal interval between two
injections of vaccines is different. Specifically: AstraZeneca, 8-12 weeks. Sputnik
V, 3 weeks after the first dose. Pfizer, 3 weeks after the first dose. Sinopharm,
3 to 4 weeks. Moderna, 28 days.
Up to now, Vietnam has received many
vaccines produced by different technologies such as vector technology
(manufactured by AstraZeneca, or Sputnik V), mRNA technology (produced by
Pfizer, Moderna), inactivation technology (vaccine produced by Sinopharm). At
the same time, the manufacturers are currently researching and developing a
number of vaccines using different technologies.
Recently, due to the general shortage of
vaccines, many countries have researched and used injection courses combining
two vaccines with the same or different production technology, based on the
type of vaccine available at each time, such as injecting vector vaccines with
mRNA vaccines, or injecting 2 mRNA vaccines from different manufacturers...
The experts said that in the current
global shortage of vaccines, the injection that is slower than the
manufacturer's recommendation on interval of 2 injections, does not affect the
protective efficacy of the vaccine./.
