(binhthuan.gov.vn) Winter-spring crop production in Duc Linh district is facing great difficulties due to prolonged hot and dry weather and high water loss compared to previous years.
In the Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024, the entire Duc Linh district will deploy production of 8,520 hectares of all kinds of crops; including more than 7,000 hectares of rice, 720 hectares of corn, 80 hectares of beans, 110 hectares of watermelon, 230 hectares of vegetables, 280 hectares of peanuts and 100 hectares of other annual plants such as chili, sweet potato, cassava ... In particular, the rice fields are entering the stage of fertilizing and raising seedlings, so they are very important and determine the productivity and rice output of the entire Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024.
However, the current weather is very hot and dry, and water loss is high compared to every year. According to statistics, the average generator flow downstream of Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Plant in March 2024 (as of March 11, 2024) is at 31.95 m3/s, which is not guaranteed for production water supply. Particularly on March 10, 2024 and March 11, 2024, the generator flow downstream only reached 19.25 m3/s and 28.96 m3/s, the corresponding running time was 08 hours 37 minutes and 12 hours 06 minutes is very low compared to the demand.
Currently, most of the district's rice area is in the stage of fertilizing and raising seedlings but the irrigation water source is not guaranteed to be stable and regular, leading to a high risk of impact and damage to productivity and food output of the Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024 and the whole year of 2024 of the district.
In order to overcome early the above difficulties and complete the food output target of 130,000 tons in 2024 (in which the Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024 is a decisive milestone), Duc Linh District People's Committee has proposed to the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Plant to increase the flow and discharge time of generators to regulate water downstream until the end of April 2024 to ensure stable production./.
